Fountain Valley is an inland city in the western Orange County region of Southern California. It borders Huntington Beach in the west, Westminster in the northwest, Santa Ana in the east, and Costa Mesa in the southeast. It has been called both Talbert and (unofficially) Gospel Swamps at various points in its history, but has held the name Fountain Valley since 1957. Like most of the rest of Orange County, Fountain Valley has higher-than-average income figures, though it is, of course, a bit more affordable than its coastal neighbors. The city is neatly kept and carefully peppered with nice landscaping, which helps to compensate for its relative lack of dedicated green spaces. Economically, Fountain Valley leans heavily on the healthcare industry; it is home to multiple major medical centers. The 405 cuts directly through the area on its way south, so it serves as Fountain Valley's primary artery. The Pacific Coast Highway and 73 and 55 freeways are also within striking distance.
