Newport Beach is an upscale coastal city in the western/central Orange County region of Southern California. It borders Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach to the northwest, Irvine to the northeast, Laguna Woods and Laguna Beach to the southeast, and of course, the Pacific Ocean in the southwest. As one of the earliest incorporated cities in its region, Newport Beach might well be considered the prototypical OC beach town. Its geography is positively gorgeous: its beaches snake along the entirety of its coast, interrupted only by natural river mouths and peninsulas. Tourists amass there for sailing, surfing, natural beauty, and fine weather. For existing in a region that is quite thoroughly developed with residential space, Newport Beach affords easy access to open, green areas: Crystal Cove State Park lies just to the southeast. Living in Newport Beach is expensive, from home ownership to the cost of living, but it is widely considered one of the finer locales in Southern California. Primary arteries: the Pacific Coast Highway and the 55 and 73 freeways.
