It is situated in the periphery of the San Fernando Valley region—west of Tarzana, east of Calabasas, and south of the West Hills/Canoga Park/Winnetka triumvirate. As one might expect, Woodland Hills is wooded. And hilly. Because of its proximity to the Santa Monica Mountains, Woodland Hills is far more rural and green than most of the rest of the Valley. The area is relatively high income—like Calabasas, Woodland Hills has been a destination for LA County's nouveau-riche over the past couple of decades—though it does exhibit a balanced blend of rental property and inhabitant-owned homes. Prospective residents who need to commute across the Valley or into other parts of the county may find centrality and accessibility a bit troublesome as the 101 freeway is Woodland Hills' only major throughway; Topanga Canyon Blvd. can get you down to Malibu, but not especially quickly.
